Following Manchester United\’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, English
winger Jadon Sancho still remains a huge topic of conversation.
Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag said Sancho was left out of the squad because he failed
to train at an acceptable level.
After which the 23-year-old fired back with a direct public response, addressing the comments
made by his manager.

What did Sancho say?
Jadon Sancho put out the following statement on his official Twitter/X account:
“Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely
untrue, I have conducted myself in training very well this week.”
“I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, l have been a scapegoat for a
long time which isn’t fair! “All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute
to my team.”
“I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and
(am) grateful to do so which I know every week is a challenge.”
“I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!”
This honest assessment of the situation by the player has been the major bone of contention in
the football world which leads us to weigh in with HTT values in mind.
Was Sancho wrong or right?
Some things are neither white nor black, the grey area exists for a reason and this might just be
one of those cases.
Sancho\’s comments were entirely born out of the human desire to defend one\’s self, including
his reputation and livelihood.
Ten Hag\’s statement painted him as lazy and since the player obviously took exception to that,
he instantly let it be known to his 2.2 million Twitter followers and more.
Ten Hag said, “Jadon, on his performances in training we did not select him, you have to reach
a level every day at Manchester United and we can make choices in the front line. So for this
game he was not selected.”
It is understandable how the player might have felt attacked and betrayed by his own manager
as the 23-year-old has played just 76 minutes out of a possible 270 in United’s first three games
of the season, coming on as a substitute in all.
Regardless of whether the manager was in fact trying to throw him under the bus as Sancho felt
and however valid his feelings were, the Englishman could have handled the situation better.

This is precisely why HTT players are trained in values beyond just football, respect and media
training would have done Sancho a whole world of good and avoided this backlash.

Now it’s no longer about whether or not his objection to his manager’s statement was justified,
the player is being labelled as disrespectful for publicly questioning his manager.
Professional footballers are not allowed to be impulsive with their communication, especially at
the highest level.
Sancho would have been better served to allow his team put out a professional official
statement instead of the emotional and perhaps overtly honest one he did himself.
So he was not out-rightly wrong but neither was Sancho right about the way he handled this.
