The Super Eagles of Nigeria are gearing up to take on Angola in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in what promises to be an exciting game.
Both teams come into this one with a similar trajectory having each drawn their opening games and went on to win the next three consecutively.
The \’Palancas Negras\’ of Angola beat Namibia 3-0 in the round of 16 while Nigeria got the better of Cameroon to set up this game.
Here\’s a preview of the big game on Friday and what to expect:
Nigeria v Angola preview
Nigeria will play Angola in the AFCON 2023 Quarterfinals by 6pm, at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, on Friday, February 2, 2024.
This will be Angola\’s first time in the AFCON quarter-finals since 2010 when they were knocked out by Ghana in the 2010 edition.
The Super Eagles on the other hand have a long history of success in this competition, most recently in 2019 when they made a run to the semi-finals and clinched a third-place medal.
Angola\’s dangermen Gelson Dala and Mabululu would pose a source of worry for Nigeria as the pair have combined for seven goals at this AFCON so far with the former scoring four and the latter adding three goals.
Although Angola might find it difficult to score against Nigeria who boast of the best defence at the tournament so far with just one goal conceded in four games.
And the Super Eagles are not to be underrated in attack either having created the most chances of any team in AFCON 2023 although only scoring five goals.
It is worth noting that Angola are unbeaten in three previous games against the Super Eagles with two draws and a win which could be a bad omen for Nigeria.
